AN air ambulance was called to Castle Park after a woman was taken ill during a outdoor film screening.

Moviegoers were evacuated from the park after the incident on Friday night.

It happened ahead of the Pop Up Pictures screening of Bohemian Rhapsody.

It is understood a woman became ill and emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance confirmed it was called to Colchester at 7.55pm after reports a woman in her 60s had suffered a cardiac arrest.

The woman was flown to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge for further treatment.

The cinema event was subsequently cancelled along with today's screening of Dirty Dancing.

One witness said: “It was terrible - we were all told to leave after it happened. It was so horrible to see.”

Events Organiser Danny Banthorpe said everyone's thoughts were with the woman.

Mr Banthorpe said: “Someone phoned the emergency services and police, ambulance and air ambulance arrived soon after.

“We had about eight minutes for security and staff to evacuate the area so the air ambulance could land.

“I just want to say how amazing the emergency services and the staff were in handling the incident.”

Due to a combination of weather conditions and respect towards the woman's family, today’s (August 10) event will be cancelled as well.

The company said they will be issuing statements later regarding ticket information.
