An avid power-walker completed her 100th event – without even realising she had passed the milestone.

Mayland mum-of-three Lucy Cummins, 52, of Orchard Drive, took part in the 100km Peak District Challenge at Bakewell in Derbyshire.

The gruelling event, which saw 800 runners, joggers and walkers take part, took her 17 hours and seven minutes to complete.

Lucy finished 48th in the race overall and was the 13th woman to cross the finish line.

She has now brought her total event mileage up to 2,806 miles.

Lucy said she never set out to do 100 races.

She said: “Doing 100 events wasn’t even a dream when I started out and something I couldn’t have done without the support of family and friends.

“I didn’t even know I’d done 100 until someone asked me. I counted all the medals on my wall, and it came up to 100.

“I like that my 100th was 100km.

“When I came 13th in the women’s category, that took into account women who were also running it – I’m quite fast.”

Lucy, who started power-walking in 2006, has completed 48 marathons, 16 ultra-marathons and other long-distance events.

She added: “I have got another two marathons coming up which will take me up to 50 marathons overall, a 31-mile ultra-marathon in September and I’ll be going to Spain to do the Camino Trail.

“I still haven’t done the London Marathon yet.”

Her fastest event took just ten minutes by climbing the BT Tower and her longest race was her first ultra-marathon which took her 21 hours and 21 minutes.

She has also travelled abroad to take part in events in Paris, Hamburg and Venice.

Lucy won Pride of Essex in 2015 for raising more than £30,000 for a range of charities including the MND Association, Great Ormond Street Hospital and breast cancer charity Walk The Walk.
