TOILETS in West Mersea have been given a £32,000 upgrade.

The WCs in Victoria Esplanade now have new baby changing facilities, updated disabled toilets and new windows.

The project was supported by a £15,000 grant from Colchester Borough Council and funded by a combination of other sources including through West Mersea Town Council.

Julie Young, Colchester Council's deputy leader, said: “It is really pleasing that we have been able to help bring a project like this to completion. It has been really well received and will benefit residents and visitors alike.

"It fits in with our ambition to create a Better Colchester.”

West Mersea’s Mayor, Carl Powling, added: “We are delighted to have received financial support from Colchester Council to enable West Mersea Town Council to undertake this vital refurbishment which will benefit residents and our many tourists who flock to our wonderful island.”
