A SIX week campaign has been launched to encourage cashless payments in car parks.

The The North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) hopes parking rules will be easier to obey and enforce thanks to its new MiPermit software.

The award-winning system, which is available in all NEPP car parks in Braintree, Colchester, Harlow and Uttlesford, allows drivers to pay for parking via an app, website, text or over the phone.

Traffic wardens will be able to check parked cars with a mobile device connected to the MiPermit system.

Essex councillor Robert Mitchell said: “Enabling drivers to simply extend their parking stays through their phone app stops them having to rush back to the car, or worry about receiving a penalty charge notice, as well as encouraging them to stay in the area longer, benefitting local businesses too.”
