Holyhead bumper festival is even bigger this year!

The annual Holyhead Maritime Leisure and Heritage Festival - which is in its 32nd year - is on from Thursday, July 25, - until Monday, July 29.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the popular event held on the Green, at Newry Beach.

The festival is even bigger this year, with a much larger marquee to accommodate more people.

The spectacular promises something for everyone, and there is even a special free event just for local emergency service personnel, to honour their work in the community.

Events get underway on Thursday night with a children's tribute act aimed at the 5-16 year age group.

This year it is a Katy Perry and Taylor Swift tribute act, on at 7pm - 10-30pm.

The Friday show is a Queen Tribute night, but sadly is already sold out!

Friday night is traditionally hosted by Holyhead Round Table and the Ynys Cybi/Holy Island 41 Club.

Santander is also doing a raffle on the night and on that night all money goes to local charities,

On Saturday, there is a parade at 11am, funfair, live bands, and a majorettes tournament.

The Land Train is also back in Holyhead, and it is hoped members of the recent Island Games will be on board.

There are lots of fun activities on during the day including.

The Los Palmas 6 Madness tribute act is on Saturday, from 8pm- 12midnight midnight, with support from Flux and Rebecca Riots.

However, one of the organisers David Hughes warns: "Tickets are selling fast. If you want a ticket you must hurry!"

On Sunday, there is another full, fun- packed day and evening of community- based events.

On Sunday morning there is a free family show - Sioe I'r Teulu - from 11am - 12 noon with S4c TV characters such as Sali Mali and Peppa Pig, organised by Menter Iaith Môn.

On the Sunday, it is also the annual breakwater race, then in the afternoon the Fun Colour Run.

Sunday also sees eight American wrestlers show their muscle in singles doubles contests, plus there is 'a royal rumble' - where they all pitch in to fight each other! Tickets are £6 for the family rated show between 3- 5pm.

On Sunday night, there is a private function, a free cabaret night to 'say thank you' to the emergency services. There will be a live band, comedy and hog roast for them to enjoy.

During the day there is plenty going on including a fun run and search and rescue display.

There is also a first for the festival on Sunday. Billed as a 'We'r a Knockout' contest, there are eight teams, including five men and five women, in each team. It's laughs all the way, as they battle it out for victory, in a hilarious event based loosely on the famous TV show,

On Monday night, a disco has been arranged just for local majorette teams the Gwelfor, Sapphires and All Stars from 7pm - 9pm.

Organiser David Hughes said: " This year's festival looks to be even bigger and better than before.

"We are expecting thousands of people to come to Holyhead for this popular annual event, now in its 32 years.

"There is something for everyone. We have tried to keep all the events either free or low priced.

Organisers ask people to be aware of local traffic hold ups between 11am and 12 noon during Saturday's parade.
