FIREFIGHTERS cut a pensioner free from his car after it left the road and crashed into a ditch.

Emergency services were called to the scene, in Little Clacton Road, at around 3.40pm yesterday.

Two fire crews from Clacton worked to free a man, aged in his 70s, from an overturned Ford Ka.

PC Toby Wilde said the road was temporarily closed between the A133 and Constable Avenue.

He added: "Luckily the driver only came away with minor injuries."

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said: "We sent an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.

"Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him to Colchester General Hospital for further assessment and care."
