Fans got a first look at Colchester United's new home kit at it launched ahead of the club's Open Day yesterday.

It was revealed last week the players would not be wearing the famous blue and white stripes for the first time in decades.

The last time the U's wore a non-stripey kit is believed to be in the late eighties.

For the next season the U's will play in a blue shirt, with white collar and lighter blue pinstripes, and blue shorts.

There are also white and blue socks.

Speaking in his pre-season update U's chairman Robbie Cowling said: "For most years, but certainly not all of them, the Colchester kit is blue and white stripes.

"This year is one of those years where we are going to make an exception.

"The clue to what can be expected is that I hope this year's kit will repeat the amazing cup success Colchester last had when they wore a very similar kit."
