A POET’S work has been featured on TV.

Colchester-based poet David Canning, also known as the Mountain Poet, has his writing featured Channel 5’s The Great Gardening Challenge.

The episode, which took place at Knightswood Daycare Centre near Bradwell-on-Sea featured the poem Bradwell-on-Sea painted on the interior wall of a potting shed.

David said: “I was really excited when Catherine Burrage called me to say she wanted to include one of my poems. Naturally, I was happy for them to use it, it was a great honour to be part of such a great project.”

The Great Gardening Challenge pitches teams of professional garden designers against each other on projects to bring back to life underused plots of land with Catherine and James Burrage winning.

Catherine Burrage said: “David’s poem sums up the experience and emotion of the landscape in this area and in the garden, and that connection with nature.”

“A significant part of the design is a potting shed, requested by the charity so the centre users can enjoy gardening activities.

“I also wanted to give the garden a more design edge.”

David Canning published his first poetry collection called ‘An Essex Parish’ in 2015, which include the poem featured in the programme.
