BUYERS are queuing up to by homes on Canvey’s Sandy Bay development with extra staff hired to cope with demand.

More than 900 new homes are set to be built at the residential resort, with Lee Skinner, who is overseeing the development, confirming 150 have been completed and are all already occupied.

Mr Skinner also added he is hoping to see the whole project, branded “the best of its kind in Europe” since work begun, completed by the end of 2022.

He said: “Things couldn’t be going better. We have been forced to increase the workforce to meet the demand.

“Everything is all on track, if not ahead of the original plan.

“We have people waiting and ready to move in, we just need to keep up with the demand and get the the homes built.

“The moment we have a home finished, people move in, it is proving that popular.

“In all honesty, we have the extra workers, we are trying to get this done as fast as possible so the development can be complete and we can provide this fantastic accommodation.

“We are very proud of what we are doing here, and we are confident in providing one of the best gated complex in the whole country.”

The Environment Agency visited the site this week and one resident claimed work had been halted as a result with concerns raised about potential issues on the property.

But Mr Skinner insisted the project was pushing on at a rapid pace.

The Environment Agency confirmed it was at the site on Monday, but only to clear weeds from a pumping station to stop any potential flooding.

A spokesman said: “Environment Agency field team officers visited Sandy Bay on Canvey Island on Monday to clear debris from weed screens at our pumping station on the site, in anticipation of thunderstorms forecast for later that evening.

“The Environment Agency has not taken any enforcement action related to any work on the site, nor has it instructed or requested that construction work cease.”

Homes at the site continue to be built as part of a major development.

Mr Skinner is hoping the popularity continues during the rest of the building work over the next three years.
