YOUNGSTERS sampled life as power workers when they visited UK Power Networks’ office in Colchester.

The power company, which delivers electricity to 8.3million customers across the east of England, London and the south east, has partnered with charity Unity Enterprises East Anglia through its Brunel Way office.

Unity Enterprises East Anglia, founded last year, offer workplace experience visits, engagement opportunities and quality mentoring and coaching for young people aged 13-25 who may be facing barriers and social challenges.

Mark Penson, a field engineer who works from UK Power Networks at the Colchester’ office, helped arrange the link-up as well as the visit for the Clacton County High School pupils, which included a CV workshop and a mentoring scheme. He said: “We welcome the chance to work with a brilliant charity like Unity Enterprises and help open up opportunities for the young people they support.”

“Many are in vulnerable situations so the charity provides them with a gateway to employment.

“Unity Enterprises always focus on the strengths of young people to maximise their potential and it was great to see the students show so much enthusiasm and interest in what we do as a power company.”

Ben Stone, founder and chief executive of Unity Enterprises East Anglia, said: “We are delighted to be working with UK Power Networks to raise ambition in young people and inspire them to focus on their future.

“Workplace experience visits provide a perfect platform to understand more about being a positive future employee of such a great company.”
