TWO brothers have admitted setting fire to a parked BMW before trying to set a blaze in the owner’s home.

Aaron and Craig Johnson targeted the home, in High Road, Laindon, in October last year.

Aaron Johnson, 32, admitted his role in the two fires at Basildon Crown Court yesterday while brother Craig Johnson, 27, previously entered two guilty pleas.

The brothers were due to be sentenced together yesterday but this was delayed by the judge so a psychiatric report could take place in relation to Aaron Johnson.

Both men have been remanded in custody until sentencing can take place - set for August 5.

Judge Ian Graham said: “Craig Johnson you have already entered guilty pleas to both charges.

“Aaron Johnson, you have now entered guilty pleas and you will both be given credit for those guilty pleas when this case reaches sentencing, and it will reduce the sentence that is eventually passed.

“I am prepared to accept your counsels’ request to adjourn for a full psychiatric report to take place ahead of sentencing.

“The case will therefore be listed for some time near the beginning of August.

“It is obviously in your best interest to cooperate with the doctor producing that report.

“You both will remain in custody. “

Both men, of Halesworth Road, in Romford, appeared emotionless throughout the hearing, speaking only to confirm their names and ages, while Aaron Johnson spoke in order to enter both his guilty pleas.

Family members filled the public gallery for the hearing, and again remained emotionless as Aaron Johnson entered his pleas.

Aaron Johnson admitted arson with intent to endanger life in relation to the car fire, and attempted arson with intent to endanger life in relation tot he attempted house fire.

Craig Johnson previously admitted arson being reckless and putting life in danger and attempting to commit arson putting life in danger
