PLANS for permanent caravans on the grounds of a country pub have been given the go ahead.

Tendring Council has approved plans for 19 permanent static caravans the Strangers Home Pub and Campsite's grounds.

The plans state the existing 22 seasonal touring pitches would be removed to make way for the static caravans in a controlled gated park.

The planning application, on Tendring Council’s planning website, said the installation of the 19 caravans would help sustain the pub going forward for the benefit of the owners, the community and visitors.

A range of residents submitted both their objections and support for the application.

Yvonne Welsh Beerhouse, of Station Road, said she supports the plans.

She said: "I live next door to the Strangers Home Pub.

"We never hear any unsociable noise after 10pm.

"The owners of the camp site ensure the noise is kept to a minimum.

"I can only see this benefitting the village, the campsite is extremely family friendly serving fantastic home cooked food.

"I fully support this application."

But Tony Pither, of Mill Lane, objected to the application.

He said: "As a resident who backs on to the newly proposed static area of the caravan park, I strongly object to the proposed plans.

"Removal of the trees will not only open up and increase intrusion into our private garden it will also increase noise and decrease privacy.

"I also fear that it may result in devaluing my property.

"When purchasing our house we were advised that a public foot path ran along the end of our gardens which would be absorbed by the proposed plans."
