THE owner of a popular cake shop in Maldon is calling time on making the mouth-watering treats.

Lottie and Jake’s Cakes has decided to focus on the cake-making and cake-decorating classes they offer.

The business, which was started in October 2011, is moving out of the shop in Maldon High Street and will continue from the home of its creator Emma Wallis.

Emma, 44, will run the classes from her home in Fambridge Road.

In a newsletter, Mrs Wallis said: “I can hardly believe it’s been seven and a half years since we opened the doors to Lottie and Jake’s Cakes in Maldon.

“It’s been an amazing journey, getting to know all our lovely customers and hear about all your cake creations.

“However, as the different strands to the business have all grown, I have made the decision to focus on the cake-making and cake-decorating classes.

“It’s not been an easy decision to make, but as I tend to spend less time at the shop these days and more time creating, it feels the right time to hand over the reins.

“I owe a big thank you to our fabulous and dedicated team at Lottie and Jake’s who are always on hand with advice and enthusiasm.

“We have lots of exciting cake classes planned for the coming months too, so keep an eye on our website for details.”

From July 1, the Lottie and Jake’s Cakes shop will become the Cake Supply Company, run by new owner Karen Cavilla.

When asked about the decision, Emma said time constraints and other commitments meant she had to downsize the business activities.

She added: “There are three main strands to the business – cake-making, cake classes and cake-selling.

“We are still a relatively small business and I’m finding less and less time to be in the shop and bake.

“This decision will help me develop the classes more.

“I also wanted someone to be here with expert advice at all times.”

Emma also said she would use the time at home to be with daughters Lottie, aged ten, and Abigail, eight.
