DOGS are set to be treated to story time and outdoor play after creche for pooches was given the green light.

The Canine Creche Group applied to Colchester Council to open a day centre in Moss Road, Stanway.

The creche, which is not a kennel, is aimed to keep the dogs calm and happy.

A typical creche includes ball pits, climbing frames, Wendy Houses and lots of toys, strongly resembling a nursery for children.

The outside space is fully secure, clean and also filled with activity play equipment.

Staff at Canine Creche Group stress the dogs they take in are not noisy, as checks are carried out before they register to make sure they will fit in well with other pets.

The group has a number of crèches across the country.

Colchester Council has now given the plans the green light.

An original bid to open a creche in Brunel Court on Severalls Industrial Estate last year fell through after the building ended up being taken over by another firm.
