AN annual festival for youngsters will return to Castle Park this weekend.

The Young Children’s Festival in the upper park will take place on Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm.

The free event has been running since 1995 and regularly attracts thousands of visitors.

The event will have workshops, activities, arts, crafts and games.

There will also be sport and theatre for little ones to get involved in.

Displays in the arena will showcase children’s classes and clubs from around the area.

Volunteers put on the event which is being run in partnership with Colchester Council and Livewell Colchester this year.

The theme for this year’s festival is Let’s Play.

Mike Lilley, Colchester Council communities boss, said: “Once again, the Young Children’s Festival has lined up a great free fun programme of activities for young families in Colchester to take part in.

“Not only does this event offer valuable health and well-being advice, but also inspires creativity through play. Colchester Council and Livewell Colchester are proud to support the festival.”

It will be opened by the mayor Nick Cope at 11am.
