HUNDREDS of people turned out to make a community celebration of running a success.

It was the second year the Boxted 10km, 5km and 2km races have been held in the village to raise funds for the primary school, St Peter’s.

As well as the sold out races, a fete packed with family activities helped to make Sunday’s event a success.

James Collitt, route and events director, said it is set to return and be on an even bigger scale next year.

A total of 750 people entered the three race distances on offer.

He said: “It was a massive turnout, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

“There was a carnival atmosphere, there was a real community spirit and it brought the best out in the village.

“Without question it was the biggest event the village has ever seen.”

Race director Vanessa Dolling added: “For our second race, the comments we are getting back are that we exceeded expectations.”

Winners included Max Muddle (2km) Ryan Burgoyne (5km) and Edward Mitchell (10km).

Boxted Runners were the main organisers, while Boxted Royal British Legion and Boxted School Association were among the groups who helped out.

Bouncy castles and face painting were on the go for children, with entertainment from singer Tessa Collitt and Loxley’s Corner.

Dreamwave events provided the sound system for free.

Money raised is still being counted up.
