A SERIES of events which aim to get communities together to make a difference where they live are returning.

The Make a Difference days are run by Colchester Borough Homes.

This year, the four events will run under a new format aimed at targeting the issues and improvements which matter most to tenants.

People who live in the areas will be consulted to find out what improvements they feel should be carried out on the day.

The first kicks off in Cedar Avenue, Tiptree, today.

There will also be events in the Dutch Quarter in June, New Town in July and Greenstead in August.

The events include dog chipping, gardening tips, NHS heath checks and exercise classes.

There will also be an additional four mini Make a Difference events throughout the year.

These will be smaller events which will focus on specific blocks of flats and will be identified following feedback.

The days will be run in partnership with other agencies and organisations to help maximise the benefits for people.

Gareth Mitchell, chief executive of Colchester Borough Homes, said: “Colchester Borough Homes Make a Difference Days have a legacy of making significant improvements that really benefit local people.

“We are proud to be bringing them back for 2019, with a new, refreshed focus on meeting the needs of our tenants.”

He added: “These events are fantastic way to bring together local organisations and residents for the benefit of the community.

“I would encourage anyone living locally who has any spare time to come along and get involved.”

The housing association is also looking to support community events throughout the year and are asking for suggestions from tennants.
