THE teachers have been recruited, the new building kitted out…now Paxman Academy is preparing to welcome its first students.
The secondary school in Shrub End, Colchester, is being built by Essex County Council on the site of the former Alderman Blaxill School.
The 900-place school opens in September with 180 Year 7 students and is already oversubscribed.

Headteacher Carol-Anne Moffat was joined by deputy Nick Mussett for a tour of the site.
Mrs Moffat said: “The building takes my breath away, it’s stunning.
“We are getting really excited about next year. We have developed a science, technology, engineering and maths curriculum which embraces innovation. We have state-of-the-art technology to enhance teaching and learning.
“We have a very strong leadership team and core teaching staff. We are already thinking about the children joining us and the skills and values we want them to develop.”
An induction day for students will take place on July 4.
Mr Mussett said: “We want Paxman Academy to be at the heart of the community. Having a look around the building enables us to visualise the day-to-day running of the school.

“We have so many ideas about giving our students exciting opportunities. We want children to enjoy school, engage and progress. It’s all becoming real now.”
