A PUB is closing the road outside it and bringing the seaside to the streets for its annual party.

Staff at the Lion and Lobster in Sillwood Street, Brighton, will be hosting a beach-themed party on its doorstep for the bank holiday celebrations.

Bar manager Lucy Dickinson, 24, said: “We are really looking forward to it and so excited to host our annual street party.

“We want everyone to be coming along in their finest beach wear, we want people down in their Hawaiian shirts.

“There is going to be a surf machine and lots of blow-up toys.

“We will be bringing the beach to the streets for people to enjoy.”

Some of Brighton’s well-known bands will be playing throughout the day including rock/punk band The Big Push, Hot Souls and Altomatics.

Barbecue

Staff will be throwing the popular Lion and Lobster beef burgers on the barbecue all day for people to enjoy.

The halloumi veggie equivalent will also be up for grabs.

Dani McGovern, who has been the assistant general manager at the pub for the last 14 years, said they were expecting about 500 people.

She said: “It is going to be a great family friendly

event.

“We are encouraging people to come along in their best beach wear because we are going for it and setting up the beach in the streets.

“We will be blocking off the road outside the pub because we have all sorts joining us on the day.”

Staff have organised for an ice cream van to attend and street food vendor Muffin Man and Co.

She said: “We will also have facepainting on the go and we have a giant Lion and Lobster canvas for the children to colour in.

“It’s going to be a great day.

“Not sure what the weather is going to be yet but it won’t be called off, the party will continue.”

The previous Lion and Lobster street party held during Halloween last year proved to be a great success and staff are hoping to repeat that at the spring/summer bash.

The party takes place on Saturday from 1pm until 9pm.

Funds raised through the guest stalls at the street party, including the facepainting, will go towards the Starr Trust, a charity formed to support young people to fulfill their potential.

It is an independent, family run charity whose income comes entirely from community fundraising and events, and donations from companies and individuals.

Mission

Its mission is to support young people aged ten to 18 to fulfil their potential through sports, arts and education and by giving a helping hand to achieve their goals at a time when they really need it.

It provides financial grants of up to £5,000 for young people in need living in the BN post code area and also training and development of skills, connections and mentoring.
