AN update has now been released concerning a major road closure in the district.

Fambridge Road is set to move its traffic lights and move to a different part of the road to enable a two-way traffic system.

The switch is set to happen this Saturday.

An Essex County Council spokesman said: “Currently, the one-way restriction on Fambridge Road is expected to continue up to May 25.

“At which time works are due to start on the second phase which will be at a sufficient distance from the Limebrook Way/Fambridge Road Roundabout to allow the current one-way restriction to be lifted, and traffic controlled by two way traffic lights/manual controls on Fambridge Road until early July.

“Traffic management on the Fambridge Road development continues to be reviewed and will be adjusted as soon as onsite progress allows changes to be made to improve traffic flows.

“The developer’s working permissions have been extended to allow the site team to increase their days and hours of working to assist them in completing the works sooner.

“We would like to thank Maldon District residents for the co-operation being shown while roadworks take place on Mundon Wash Bridge and developers carry out infrastructure improvements to Fambridge Road.

“We would like to reassure you that efforts are being made to minimise other works in the vicinity as much as reasonably practical, only accommodating works that are absolutely necessary.

“We would urge drivers to allow extra travelling time and to always check signage before travelling through the area as the traffic management is in place to protect the safety of the public and the workforce, and may be subject to change at short notice.”

Developers Taylor Wimpey have confirmed they are planning various further work until July.

A spokesman said: “As part of planning condition granted by Maldon District Council, a number of highway improvements have been identified including: installation of two new 40m ghost right turn lanes on Fambridge Road, two new bellmouths to be installed joining Fambridge Road to the proposed development, new street lighting, new 3m cycleway from Limebrook Way to the northern bellmouth and new toucan crossing on Limebrook Way with associated signals.”

From May 25 to July 4, there will be two-way traffic lights for 24 a day.

There may be some highway incursions from July 4-12 and there will be overnight road closures on Fambridge Road from July 15-17
