ONE of the oldest military bands in the country delighted audiences with their moving music.

Essex Yeomanry Band took over Castle Park’s bandstand in Colchester to perform in front of an appreciative crowd in the picturesque setting of the award-winning park.

The band performs a selection of military, classical and light music giving regular public concerts throughout the year.

Greg White, the band’s director of music, said the performance, one of the first bandstand concerts of the season, was a hit.

He said: “It’s attendance was really good and there were lots of people around the bandstand.

“The concert itself went fantastically and we played for about two hours.

“The feedback was that we usually play a lot of sad music, but for this concert we also played light music.

“The weather was great on the day which helped attract visitors.

“It is definitely worth going in the summer when the weather is even better.”

The band was sponsored by Cafe in the Park.

The bandstand will host a series of concerts throughout the year. For more information, go to www.visitcolchester.com and search bandstand concert.
