A MAN was arrested after failing to stop for police.
Officers tried to stop a Ford Fiesta in West Stockwell Street, Colchester, shortly before 7.15pm on Thursday.
The driver continued and eventually crashes into a lamp post in nearby Ryegate Road.
A 23-year-old man from Brightlingsea was detained.
Police found a retractable knife in his possession and a hammer in the car.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, drug-driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed, and failing to stop after an accident.
The man has since been released under investigation.
