RESIDENTS living close to where a man was stabbed to death have been reassured they are not at risk.

Police launched a murder investigation after Murdoch Brown, 31, died in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He had been attacked in Buffett Way, Colchester, and later died in hospital despite the best efforts of paramedics having stabbed multiple times in the legs.

Tragic - Murdoch Brown

Colchester’s district commander, Chief Insp Rob Huddleston, confirmed extra officers would be deployed in the area and urged people to carry on going about their lives as normal.

He said: “We believe this was a targeted attack.

“There is absolutely no reason for the wider community to be worried about going about their lawful business.

“We have already got additional officers in the area.

“We are already running Operation Sceptre which is aimed at bringing down the level of knife crime and drug supply into Colchester.

“There will be officers from Essex Police’s Operation Support Group in the Greenstead area.

“Hopefully they will provide the reassurance for residents.”

Detectives investigating the murder believe it may have been linked to drugs.

They are appealing for anyone with photographs or footage of people selling illegal substances in Greenstead to get in touch with them as soon as possible.

Mr Brown’s family described him as a devoted father.

They said: “Murdoch was a much-loved partner, son, brother and uncle.

“He was a devoted father to his children and his family are heartbroken.

“He will be very much missed by his family and friends.”

A second man was hurt in the incident where Mr Brown was killed but he was not stabbed.
