FAMILIES will be put to the test navigating the streets of Colchester during a new Poppy Quest.

The Royal British Legion is launching the 10k walk with a twist which will take place this summer.

The walk, which will start at Castle Park, will take participants on a journey of discovery through the town.

They will be armed with a map and a quiz highlighting different historical and cultural landmarks.

Community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion Angela Tillett said: “We hope the Poppy Quest will encourage those locally, and those from further afield, to join in and show their support for the legion whilst discovering a hidden trail of surprises within Colchester.

“The money raised through the event will help us to continue our work providing support for service personnel, veterans and their families through hardships, injury and bereavements.”

The legion offers life-long support to the Armed Forces community in a number of ways including providing crisis grants, lobbying the government on key issues, specialist dementia care, recovery programmes and advising on benefits and money problems.

The East Anglia and Essex Area team, based at the pop in centre in Colchester High Street, will also be there on the day to provide information on their services.

The quest will take place on July 6. It is free for under 18s or £16 per adult, with a minimum fundraising target of £50.

The fee includes an official Poppy Quest 2019 t-shirt, medal, detailed city map and quiz sheet.
