MORE than £1,500 has been raised for a mental health charity after a fundraising night in memory of a late Bolton man.

23-year-old Alexander Banerjee hanged himself on the night of his grandfather’s 80th birthday party, on May 12, 2018.

Concerns were sparked at Mr Banerjee’s inquest as it was revealed a GP told his family that there was no home-based mental health service in Bolton - despite one being based at the Rivington Unit of Royal Bolton Hospital.

Last weekend, family and friends of Mr Banerjee held a charity evening at Astley Bridge Conservative club, to raise funds for mental health charity Mind.

Mr Banerjee’s mother Jane Alexander was delighted with how the event went.

She said: “Alexander’s charity evening went really well.

“I am so proud of all his family and friends, we raised £1,500 and could be more.

“The stories his friends told me about my son were so touching and funny, he certainly was loved by so many people.

“I will cherish their stories always and they are a great comfort to me.

“Our young people have so many stresses in today’s world yet have so much love for each other and help others even though life is a struggle for them.

“I am so proud of each and everyone of them .”

Money was raised on the night with the sale of £5 tickets and £2 raffle tickets.

Prizes included a weekend away, meals out, a £50 tattoo voucher and food hampers.

Mrs Alexander is now hoping to organise a cheque presentation with a representative from Mind.
