THE manager of a preschool said significant action has been taken after it was rated requires improvement by Ofsted.

St Peters Thundersley Preschool was told its management and safety risks were not up to scratch in the report published on Tuesday.

It was previously rated as good, but now has all categories rated as requires improvement.

The report stated the manager’s systems to support staff to improve teaching qualities “were not rigorous enough” and more direction was needed.

They also highlighted that during sessions where the children were taken outside to explore nature and the environment, there were periods where the children were not engaged when activities were changed around, meaning they were “not purposefully engaged in learning” and “they run around aimlessly”.

In a key finding, Ofsted said: “Staff do not ensure that all children are challenged enough in their learning. Consequently, some children’s learning is not fully supported, and some children do not make sufficiently good progress. “

The report did find that all children were happy in the school and settled well, with staff providing regular feedback to parents and introduce themes to motivate their learning.

Sara Collom, manager of the preschool, said all problems have been addressed since the inspection and the school were confident the next inspection would be more successful.

She said: “All of the issues that were raised in the Ofsted report we have now addressed, we had them made before the deadline Ofsted gave for the end of April.

“The improvements have now been put in place, it wasn’t anything that wasn’t achievable.

“I also sent a newsletter home to all of the parents to let them know about the report and what we were doing to change things and make the improvements.

“We’re now awaiting the next inspection from Ofsted, it would be nice for it to happen sooner rather than later but I know they sometimes can take up to a year to have the follow up inspection.”
