A developer has launched a consultation on proposals for a major new housing development in Burnham.

Taylor Wimpey is asking residents for their views on plans to build a proposed 135 homes on the land off Marsh Road.

The scale of the development will be unveiled at an event at Ormiston Rivers Academy, in Southminster Road, on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the developer said the event will give local residents, businesses, community groups and other interested parties the chance to find out more about the scheme and discuss the details with the Taylor Wimpey project team.

The initial proposal from the developer, said: “We are preparing a full detailed planning application for a new residential development on land off Marsh Road, Burnham.

“The site has been allocated for housing development in the Maldon local plan.

“Our proposal includes a mix of new homes, of which a proportion will be affordable housing - as required by planning policy - as well as public open space.”

The consultation has come after Taylor Wimpey launched another detailed application for 300 homes it plans to build on land off Limebrook Way, in Maldon.

Maldon District Council refused the previous application, with some councillors slamming the plans and describing blocks of flats as looking like “prisons”.

Ahead of next week’s consultation over the Marsh Road site, David Burns, senior land manager for Taylor Wimpey East London, said: “As a considerate, responsible developer, we want to give people the chance to have their say on development plans for their area.

“Anyone who comes along to our public exhibition on May 14 will be able to speak to members of our project team to find out more about our proposals and provide their feedback to help us develop and refine the emerging scheme.”

Taylor Wimpey said it is also “working closely” with Natural England to preserve and protect badgers living on the proposed site.

A number of setts are present on the site and the developer plans to “minimise” disruption to the animals.

The consultation takes place between 5pm and 7.30pm next Tuesday.
