A PRIMARY school and nursery marking its 125th anniversary year is hosting an open day on Saturday.

Former pupils and staff are welcome to North Primary School and Nursery, Colchester, between 10am and 1pm.

There will be the opportunity to meet the current teachers and pupils, share memories and photographs, and take part in an artist-led workshops to inspire the final artwork being commissioned for the anniversary project.

The school and nursery has been awarded National Lottery funding to research its rich history.

Working with historian Claire Driver, the teachers and children have so far explored the school’s archive at Essex Record Office.

Pupils have also had oral history training with sound archivist Sarah-Joy Maddeaux.

All the donations, stories, oral histories and research will be brought together into an archive for the school, to share its legacy with future generations.

Laura Davison, project manager, said: "We have had an amazing response from former pupils, sharing their memories and photographs. Gradually, we are building up a picture of what happened in the school, how it has changed and what it was like to be a pupil at North.

"The year five pupils are enjoying gathering all this information and using it within their research to understand and retell the school’s history."
