A TEENAGER from Bulmer has been selected to represent Great Britain in the triathlon.

Charlie Boldock, 15, is set to compete for Great Britain in the 15 to 19 year age group in Sweden this summer.

Charlie, who is a Year 10 pupil at Hedingham School, in Sible Hedingham, said he knows he will be one of the youngest competing in Sweden but is excited by the challenge of going up against athletes so much older than he is.

He said: “I am really delighted with this achievement and very excited about the competitions ahead.

“The Brownlee brothers, who have both gained Olympic triathlon medals, are my heroes and I hope that one day I may emulate them.”

Charlie has been involved in triathlons for a number of years and has worked hard to improve his skills in the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.

He was elected junior captain of Sudbury Triathlon Club last year.

His best discipline is cycling although he was first put forward for triathlon training due to his ability at swimming.

A spokesman for Hedingham School said: “He trains incredibly hard and only gives himself one rest day a week.

“He cycles everywhere he can and even in the winter, can be found swimming in open water situations despite the cold.”
