A CONSTANT presence on Prestatyn High Street for more than 30 years will close its doors for the last time.

The Prestatyn motorist Shop, which opened in the town in 1982, is due to shut up shop following owner of 15 years Mike Hillam’s retirement.

The independent motor accessories shop, which specialises in car parts and other services, started life as Speedy Days, before changing to its current name 22 years ago.

Mr Hillam, who leaves between Bodfari and Llandyrnog, said:”There’s no problem with the business, it’s outlasted a lot of other businesses on the high street over the years and there’s nothing complicated about why we’re closing - I’m 65 in June and I wanted retire and spend more time in my garden. It’s just what I needed to do, it’s as simple as that.

“We had hoped maybe somebody would take it on, but it’s quite difficult to find the right person because we’re not a general business. We’re very specialised, and you need to have a lot of knowledge on various parts.

“I hope now someone can come in a do something really nice with the property.”

There is no set date for the shop’s closure, which will be based on when Mr Hillam and his sole employee Trevor Cotterill sell through their current stock.

“There’s a lot of people who have come in and have told us they’re sorry to see us go, we had quite a few customers from a fair distance because of our specialist knowledge. There’s not really another business like us in the area.

“”I’d like to thank all of our customers for all of their support and business over the years.”
