AN unsuspecting snacker was stunned after discovering a length of string embedded in a chocolate biscuit bar.

The multi-pack of Breakaway bars had been bought from the Tesco store at the Hythe in Colchester.

But the black string was found in one of the chocs.

The man who bought the bars, who doesn't want to be named, said he was worried what may have happened if his grandchildren had been the ones eating it.

He said: "It is lodged right in there and strong enough to hold the whole weight of the bar by itself.

"My grandchildren could have bitten into it and choked.

"They have said to me it might have got in there at the factory when ingredients were being loaded from a sack.

"If I had wanted string I'd have gone to a hardware shop."

The shoppers has contacted Tesco and Nestle who both asked for the bar to be sent to them - and Colchester Council.

A spokesman for Nestle said: “We are very sorry that a Breakaway bar was found in this condition.

"We have stringent rules in place across all of our manufacturing and our teams work very hard to avoid our products leaving our factories any less than perfect.

"This type of complaint is very rare and, once the bar is returned to us, we can investigate how it could have happened and, if required, take steps to make sure it cannot happen again.”
