PATIENTS will be able to access GP services at weekends from this Saturday (May 4).

Residents in Witham will be able to choose to be seen at an ‘extended access hub’ which will be open at Douglas Grove Surgery.

It joins the Mount Chambers Surgery in Braintree, which is open on Sundays, and the Elizabeth Courtauld Surgery, in Halstead, which is open six days a week.

Patients can see nurses and GPs at the Witham hub from 8am until 2pm on any Saturday, including bank holiday weekends,

Bosses say it means residents who may not be able to get to a GP during the week will still be able to get help.

The extended access service is also now offering smear tests.

Patients do not have to be registered with any of the surgeries hosting a hub, only with a GP practice anywhere in mid Essex.

The service is appointment-only and bookings can be made outside of opening hours by calling 111.
