The first May bank holiday starts tomorrow.

And while the weather won't be quite as warm as Easter, it is still set to be nice weather to get out and about.

Black Buoy Real Ale and Cider Festival

There will be four days of ales, ciders, live music and food.

The Wivenhoe watering-hole kicks off the event today and it will run until Monday.

There will be live music across Saturday, Sunday and Monday with blues, acoustic and covers.

Plus Monday will seen an open mic night from 8pm to 11pm.

The event is dog and children friendly. Entry is free.

Cosmic Puffin Music Festival

The music festival will see 100 bands take to the stage.

The annual Cosmic Puffin music festival will be held at Mersea Youth Camp from Friday to Monday.

There will be seven stages including the Cosmic Stage and a Mad Hatter’s Dance Tent.

Day or weekend tickets with camping are available.

There will also be traders and entertainment for children.

Money raised from the concert will go to a number of charities.

Jane's Walk - Colchester 2019

Jane’s Walk Colchester returns for its ninth year.

It will see a weekend of walks led by local people on local themes - all given free, honouring the life and legacy of the late urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs.

The Colchester event takes place on the May Bank Holiday weekend from Friday to Tuesday.

The weekend includes 26 walks plus one cycle ride as well as a Mini Film Festival with three film screenings; an exhibition and a party.

Bluebells Bazaar, Green Island Gardens, Ardleigh

It takes place across Saturday and Sunday when visitors can stroll among the bluebells.

The Bluebells Bazaar and NGS Open Day is a chance to visit the gardens and enjoy the sights and smells of spring with the woodland carpeted in Bluebells and the vibrant Azaleas.

An open air bazaar will be held in the main gardens with stalls showcasing local art, crafts and produce.

It will be open from 10am to 5pm on both days.

Children's World, Castle Park, Colchester

The funfair in Castle Park will include a great range of fun rides for children aged 2 to ten years.

A £7.50 wristband pass gets endless rides for youngsters.

It will be held across Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Free Comic Book Day 2019

Prepare to dress as your favourite comic hero for the annual Free Comic Book Day.

Ace Comics in Colchester participates in the global event every year.

It is held on the first Saturday in May, with this year's event taking place on May 4.

The day aims to promote the comic book industry and encourage new readers.

The shop in Culver Street East will be giving away free comics to visits.

Dawn Chorus & Breakfast, Abberton Visitor Centre

Join the team and experience bird song at its best and identify the songsters.

Attendees will then returning to the visitor centre for a full English breakfast with a vegetarian option available.

A donation of £13.50 per adult is request and includes breakfast.

It takes place on Saturday from 4.30am to 6.30am and places are limited.

A street Market with something for everyone.

There will be more than 30 traders and the Manningtree Emporium is just a short walk away.

The event is held every first Saturday of the month from May to September.

Colchester Rugby Club Family Fun Day

The annual collaboration with St Helena Hospice is back on Sunday.

At the fundraising event there will be a Rugby 7s Festival, community stands, craft stalls, food, refreshments, children's activities, inflatables, and a beer festival.

May Bank Holiday Festival, East Anglian Railway Museum

On Sunday the popular local children’s entertainer, Steff & Nonsense, will be performing and there will be live music from rock’n’roll band, Double Trouble.

On Monday the Goods Shed will be turned into a Go-Karting track and there is juggling and circus workshops, traditional rides and New River Dixielanders playing live.

There is space for picnics and the onsite Viaduct Tavern will be open serving a range of bottled beers, ciders, wine and soft drinks.

Preloved Vintage Clothing Kilo Sale, Charter Hall

Preloved Vintage Wholesale are putting on this unusual event on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

On entry you’ll be given a big bag and will be set free to load up with as many items as you like.

Stock is replenished throughout the day and the rails are always fully stocked.

Once you’ve filled your bag, take it to the pay station and the team will weigh it and let you know how much you’ve spent so far.

There will be more than six tonnes of preloved, retro and vintage clothing sold for £15 a kilo.

Siege! – Medieval Siege Society at Hedingham Castle

It takes place on Sunday and Monday from 10am to 5pm.

Villainy is afoot and Hedingham Castle is under threat.

Choose your allegiance and rally your fellow supporters as the Medieval Siege Society returns to mark the anniversary of the siege of Hedingham Castle by the dastardly King John.

Following the arming of the knights there will be a swashbuckling set-piece battle and desperate skirmishes making up the most authentic medieval battle this side of the 15th Century.

You’ll have the opportunity to meet the magnificent birds of prey from Coda Falconry, dance round the maypole to celebrate the coming of summer and take a leisurely donkey ride around the ancient Norman Keep.

Grown-ups will have plenty to keep them amused too – there will be craft stalls and traders, and lots of delectable food stalls.

Sunday Stroll - High Woods

A walk lasting up to one and a half hours from 11am to 12.30pm on Sunday.

Led by fully trained volunteer walk leaders, the free walks are an ideal way to improve fitness or mobility in a sociable atmosphere.

The walks start from the visitor centre off Turner Road.
