RUNNERS from north Essex finally put months of training to the test when they took part in the 39th Virgin Money London Marathon.

The world famous event, also popular with elite athletes and even celebrities, is on target to have raised nearly £64million for good causes.

More than 40,000 took part, thousands even donning fancy dress, to the cheers and applause from crowds.

Colchester's Wali Noori, a former Army intepreter, completed the course despite being blind.

Eliud Kipchoge, from Kenya, won the men’s race with a new course record and second fastest time ever, while the UK’s Sir Mo Farah finished fifth.
