A DAY of zumba, music and mobility scooter races will celebrate freedom in Rhyl this summer.

The Disability Resource Centre (DRC) at Glan Clwyd Hospital is holding its first mobility Scooter fun day at Rhyl Events Arena on Saturday, June 8 at 1.30pm.

The Disability Resource Centre helps provide aids and equipment for people with disabilities, sensory impairments and chronic conditions.

The event will balance help and and advice on a variety of topics with plenty of fun, including music by the Rhyl Silver Quartet, Colwyn Bay Ukulele Group and Hospital Radio, as well as a mobility scooter version of dance exercise craze zumba.

Annette Lees of the DRC said: "We believe that mobility scooters can be a lifeline to many people allowing them to get out and about and now that the summer is on its way what better way to celebrate the freedom a mobility scooter brings to people than to have a fun day.

"We have never held an event like this before and to the best of our knowledge we don’t think there has ever been one like this - this could be a first for Rhyl and who knows it may become an annual event."

The day will also feature fun and games from mobility scooter fancy dress to slow races and an obstacle course to anyone who uses a mobility scooter with prizes to give away on the day.

Competitors are asked to make sure they are that the scooters are fully charged, as there are no on site facilities to charge them.
