RESIDENTS have formally complained to developers for a third time about unfinished works to their ten year-old estate.

They say some street lights still aren’t functioning, flats have outstanding snags and road surfaces need tidying up.

Colchester Liberal Democrat councillor for Mile End councillor Martin Goss said “dozens” of residents have raised concerns with him about the “shambolic” situation at the town’s Northfields estate.

He has submitted a third of three formal complaint on behalf of residents to directors at UK construction firm Galliford Try, whose housebuilding arm of the business is Linden Homes.

It is on behalf of residents who he said he has been fighting issues for, for seven years.

In a letter to directors Mr Goss said: “Despite numerous promises the works have still not been completed to a satisfactory conclusion.

“After this shambolic build commenced a decade ago we still have no lights functioning on some parts of the estate, open spaces which remain incomplete, flats with snags which have still not been dealt with and roads which still have some outstanding works.”

“Each timescale that’s given is missed and communication to councillors and residents has again ceased.

“Please investigate the latest shambles and come back to me with a plan as to when all of these works will be completed.”

Mr Goss reminded Galliford Try bosses in his letter its customer service rating on Trustpilot is one out of five “and the comments are appalling.”

He added: “You really are Britain’s worst ever building company! You should all be dreadfully embarrassed.”

Northfields resident Jeanne Marsh said the estate is a “mess”.

“The landscaping in front of our apartment block has never been done. We are constantly emailing Linden Homes who never reply,” she said.

In 2017 Linden Homes was forced to defend rendering on the estate’s young homes after residents had to pay a specialist cleaner to get rid of a green tinge.

Some of the 370 homes were under attack from a mould or fungus.

A Linden Homes spokesman said: “Linden Homes is working to complete outstanding remedial and snagging works on the estate, before we handover the long term management of the communal areas to the Colchester Council.

“We are working closely with our contractors, Colchester Council and the Highways Authority to ensure work on site is completed in a timely manner, and to minimise any further disruption for residents or the community. We will continue to provide updates to the council and any residents affected by these works, as we seek to complete the outstanding items as quickly as possible.”
