A RESCUE team saved a fox cub which has somehow got stuck in a drain.

Barks were heard by someone who was passing the Roman Circus Visitor Centre in Colchester on Tuesday morning.

Concerned staff at the centre tried to tempt the trapped animal out with leftover food, and eventually spotted the head of a young fox in a drain in the car park.

Unable to get close to it themselves, they called the fire service and the RSPCA who are now trying to free the cub from where it is trapped.

Centre manager Samantha Rowley said: "A passerby heard a barking coming from our drains.

"It sounded like a yappy dog.

"We tried to tempt it out with food and hot cross buns and then finally we saw this little fox cub head.

"Afterwards we called the RPSCA and the fire and rescue service."

The team worked for two hours and eventually managed to free the fox.
