A TRUE crime podcaster is searching for people with any recollection of a brutal unsolved murder which happened more than 60 years ago.

Mary Kriek – a Dutch au pair – was killed in January 1958 after getting off a bus at Foxes Corner in Eight Ash Green at 10.45pm.

The 19-year-old never made the 300 yard walk to her home in Bullbanks Farm and was found dead by a cyclist a 20 minute drive away in Dedham Road near Boxted having been beaten over the head with a tyre lever.

Jess Carter, 31, is planning to write a book about the case which has still never been solved.

She has previously been behind a successful podcast called The Outlines where she has delved into cold cases throughout the east of England.

However travelling to and from each of the locations and the painstaking research has proved too expensive so Jess, who lives just outside Colchester, has decided to focus her research on this particular incident and is planning on writing a book.

Gazette:

“I grew up in Earls Colne so I would walk near the place where she disappeared from on quite a regular basis,” she said.

“Also, she was a young Dutch woman not living in this country for very long.

“My grandmother was also Dutch and also moved here at a similar time and from a similar place in the Netherlands.

“It feels connected in lots of different ways and when I started looking through it I thought it could be something bigger.”

Jess is searching for anyone who knew the area at the time or may have spoken to the police in the aftermath of Miss Kriek’s death.

She said: “I’ve got a lot of the basics in terms of the investigation - what I am looking for is people who knew the area.

“Obviously it happened nearly 62 years ago and I understand there may not be that many witnesses but if people had seen something it is unlikely they would have kept it to themselves.

“I am looking for colour.”

Anyone with information - no matter how small - is asked to email Jess at theoutlinespodcast@gmail.com.
