AN APPEAL has been made for the person who fired the crossbow which severely injured a 74 year old man to come forward to the police.

The injured man Gerald Corrigan, 74, remains in a critical condition at the Royal Stoke University Hospital after being shot with a crossbow outside his home address on South Stack Road in Holyhead, early on Friday morning, April 19.

DCI Brian Kearney, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Our thoughts continue to be with Gerald’s family and friends. The family are being supported by specially trained officers and remain deeply traumatised.”

The property is in an extremely remote location near to the junction of Porthdafarch Road and Plas Road.

DCI Kearney explained: “Gerald has suffered horrendous injuries after the bolt passed through his upper body and right arm. We are grateful to the team at Royal Stoke University Hospital for the brilliant medical care he is receiving.”

Gerald worked as a lecturer in photography and video in Lancashire prior to retiring to Anglesey over 20 years ago and had a keen interest in nature.

DCI Kearney added: “I am appealing to the person who discharged this weapon to come forward. This is an impartial search for the truth and I have no doubt that any person who discharged such a weapon accidentally at a human being would be significantly traumatised. You will be treated professionally by myself and my team of officers.

“Our community and the victim’s family want you to come forward of your own free will and do the decent thing to help them understand what happened.

“I would also appeal to any member of the public who knows of anyone who owns a cross bow and was on the Isle of Anglesey on the 18 and 19thof April to come forward. This includes anyone who was visiting Anglesey at this time.

“Any information provided will be treated confidentially and will assist us greatly in potentially eliminating individuals from this enquiry at an early stage.

“Finally I would appeal to businesses on Anglesey and in North Gwynedd which sell cross bows, bolts and accessories to get in touch with North Wales Police.”

The investigation is now in its fourth day. North Wales Police are utilising officers from throughout our force, along with national experts, and a major incident team with significant resources has been established.

“We are grateful to our community for the help and support we continue to receive. North West Wales remains one of the safest places in the UK. This is a highly unusual incident for this area and we are determined to find whoever was responsible for this as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone who may be able to assist the investigation is asked to contact officers at Llangefni CID on 101 or via the live webchat https://www.north-wales.police.uk/contact/live-chat-support quoting reference number X052857. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
