A GROUP of travellers has pitched up at a popular beauty spot.
About seven caravans set up on Sunday at Squirrels Field, off Mill Road in Colchester.
The land, owned by Colchester Council, backs onto High Woods Country Park.
A Colchester Council spokesperson said: “Both the police and the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit have been informed.
“The unit will visit the site to carry out initial welfare checks. If there are no immediate welfare or health concerns, such as pregnancy or illness, the travellers will be asked to leave.
“If the travellers do not leave the site, we will need to go through the courts to ensure their removal.”
The court procedure, if used, will take up to ten days.
