IT takes a certain kind of evil to kick a defenceless animal.

Don’t get us wrong it isn’t great when people are attacked and it is absolutely unforgivable when vulnerable or defenceless people are targeted by thieves or bullies.

But there is something baffling about animals being attacked.

It is so cruel, so pointless and really makes you despair about some members of the human race.

Generations have enjoyed the simple pleasure of feeding the ducks which swim in the pond and nearby river.

The thought of violence towards them is abhorrent.

It is a shame, also, the perpetrators of the crime were teenagers.

The media is often lambasted for giving teenagers a so-called bad press. But when teenagers use violence against innocent creatures, it is hard to do anything else.

There are millions of good teenagers who work hard and help others and these also get praise when praise is due.

These hooligans who attacked the ducks are, of course, the minority but their behaviour must be highlighted and duly condemned.

Hopefully, someone will come forward with information which will lead to the conviction of those responsible.

We will leave it up to you to work out what you think their punishment should be.
