AN independent business is counting the cost after crooks raided its premises twice in six weeks stealing high-tech computers and causing damage totalling £25,000.

Burglars targeted branding, website and graphic design company This is Fever, in Chapel Street North, Colchester, taking 11 Apple Macs in both raids.

Owner Ben Green estimates the computers taken in both burglaries and the repair bills will cost his business more than £25,000.

He said he is also now living of fear of when the criminals might return.

“I am worried about being targeted again,” Mr Green said.

“I am also worried about other businesses in Colchester.

“There seems to be a rise in this kind of crime at the moment.”

The latest burglary took place at around 9.40pm on Sunday where two men were captured on CCTV smashing their way into the premises via the front door.

Although they were scared off by an alarm system the pair managed to escape with four Macs, which had only been purchased following the first raid on February 21.

Mr Green said: “The second time they knew how to get in and they were in and out within 37 seconds.

“I am sure it is the same people and they came back because they knew we had to replace the machines to work.

“The effect on the staff has been huge. I am very lucky I have such a dedicated and loyal team.

“I feel for them as it is the tools of their trade they are losing when this happens.

“They were gutted the first time but for it to happen again is ridiculous.

“I was only saying last week how we are finally back on our feet after the first burglary.”

Essex Police have confirmed they are investigating both raids.

A spokesman said: “Inquiries are ongoing to ascertain whether the two incidents are linked.” Witnesses should contact Colchester’s Local Policing Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
