A REVAMPED farmers’ market got off to a flourishing start.

The monthly event at Colchester Arts Centre, in Church Street, has been taken over by Justine and Alex Paul.

The couple have run Suffolk Market Events since 2008 helping to revive farmers’ markets across the county.

More than 20 producers took part in the first event in Colchester.

Stalls included White Company candles, Bolivian Pastries, Wigborough Meats, Mena’s Indian food, Hoppily Craft Beer and Beehouse Honey.

There was also organic vegetables and meat, fruit juices and cakes.

Alex said: “It went really well and we had a really great turn out.

“Colchester warmly received the relaunched market and we had 22 stalls filling out the arts centre.

“We had the fairy lights up and the pop-up café there.

“We had a really good following and had people come in from Clacton and Chelmsford.

“We now want to build the momentum. The market is now open until 2pm rather than 12.30pm and we are hoping weather permitting we can open up the back doors and get more traders through the back.”

It will run every first Friday of the month from 9.30am to 2pm.

The next event is on Friday, May 3.
