DRIVERS are set to face yet more misery with a notoriously disruptive road closure set to be reintroduced because of overrunning works.

Essex Highways has announced it will be closing Ipswich Road south to allow it to complete Anglian Water works in the area.

So far no date has been set for the closure, however it is expect to be in the next few weeks.

On March 12, Essex Highways extended the closure of Ipswich Road south for a week to allow it to "finish the job" and prevent further closures.

However now, highways bosses say another closure is needed due to "technical issues locating and isolating the live mains pipes".

A spokesman said: "Due to these issues we were unable to complete the works within the timescales therefore it will be necessary to close Ipswich Road south again to complete the diversion works and make connections to the newly laid water main pipes.

"We now know where everything is and the connections that are needed.

"This decision was not taken lightly but was based on the utility contractors soonest availability to make these connections.

"We appreciate this further closure may cause frustration and would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation whilst we undertake these necessary improvements.

"These works are currently being planned and notifications of durations and dates will be circulated once known."

Both sides of Harwich Road are set to be closed from Greenstead Road to the Harwich Road roundabouts between April 1 to April 22.
