FOR entrepreneurs, independent enterprises and the self-employed, attending crowded in-door networking events is a something of a necessary evil.

But an animal-loving businesswoman from Colchester is hoping her new and relaxing approach to corporate meet-and-greets, will be a breath of fresh air.

Self-confessed energy alchemist and animal communicator Ruth Bradshaw, 42, of Mersea Road, Colchester has launched Netwalking days.

Having networked for all of her own seven businesses and on behalf of others for more than 20 years, Ruth saw first-hand how the more traditional approach to networking events doesn’t always cater for all types of businesses.

Ruth said: ‘‘Networking is usually very formal, which works for some industries and businesses, but it doesn’t work for everyone.

“So, I decided to start Netwalking for people who have had bad experiences of networking in the past or are nervous of attending their first networking event.

“It’s really good for them. I want to connect with people, nature and the outdoors.’’

Designed to bring together like-minded, aspiring female tycoons, as well as stay-at-home workers looking for a break from isolation, the calming, three-kilometre strolls take the group around the Roman Fields.

And while they walk, they talk and share business tips and contacts.

The tranquil saunter lasts for approximately 90 minutes and attendees are also encouraged to take their dogs along for the walk.

Ruth’s dog Marshall, a Bulgarian street dog, frequently attends.

Ruth, who also works as an energy therapist, said: ‘‘We meet at 11.30am, I do an introduction and I encourage everyone to talk to each other.

“It’s usually only a small group, but it means you can have meaningful conversations and the added bonus of the dogs helps to break the ice.

“The other day we did a heart storm which is where all the ladies contribute to the conversation.’’

Having successfully launched her dog-accompanied business walks in Colchester, Ruth, who also goes by the name Ruthy Doolittle due to her nationally-documented animal whispering talents, is now hoping her unique venture will grow throughout Essex and Suffolk.

She said: ‘‘I’d like to get more like-minded people together and I would really like to see Netwalking popping up in Chelmsford or maybe even in Ipswich.

“It would definitely be nice to see it grow and because we donate 50 per cent of ticket sales to East Anglian Dog Rescue, it’s nice to be giving a little bit back.’’

The next Netwalking day will take place on April 18.

Tickets cost £10 and can be paid in advance on or on the day. For more information, email hello@ruthydoolittle.com or see her website ruthydootlittle.com.
