Young dancers wowed judges to win more than 20 trophies at a street dance tournament.

A team of 29 dancers from Epic Dance Academy, in Burnham, competed for the top spot in Street Dance International’s East Anglia Championships in Grays.

The teams are made up of children and young adults from five to 17 years old and for some this was their first competitive event.

In total, 23 trophies were won by the squad, including first place for the over-16s groups and over-16s team events and third place for the under-16s team dance.

There were also victories in the senior duo and beginner solo categories.

Academy principal Carlie Boler said: “All our dancers have worked extremely hard for months on their routines for this competition and the hard work has certainly paid off.

“We are so, so proud of every one of them – for some this is their first ever competition and for them to come away with so many trophies between them is truly amazing.

“We really do have an epic team.” The huge success automatically qualifies some teams for the national championship final in November.

The dancers are also at the Positive Energy Showcase in Stanford-le-Hope on Saturday, March 30, working on their routines ahead of a performance at Disneyland Paris in August.
