Tuesday of this week I arrived at Liverpool Street Station and was greeted by a terrific event prepared and presented by Colchester Council.
Actors dressed as Roman soldiers were parading in the concourse as part of a large display of information designed to encourage people to visit Colchester for our history, shopping and other attractions.
I understand that staff from the Visitor Information Centre and museums service plus representatives of Tiptree Jams and Colchester Roman Circus were to be there all day from 7am to 7pm.
Given the buzz around the stand it was clear that it was attracting a lot of positive attention and given the numbers of selfies being taken with the Roman soldiers was very popular.
It was good to see support on the ground from our councillors , Tim Young (Labour), Darius Laws (Conservative) and Mark Cory (Lib Dem), with Darius dressed as a Roman Centurion, who had put aside their political differences for the day to work together to promote Colchester.
An excellent initiative by Colchester Council.
