WHAT is wrong with the morons who threaten the volunteers who are simply trying to keep the roads safe?

It is a rhetorical question, of course.

We all know what is wrong with them. They have no sense of responsibility for their own actions and, as such, when they break the law by speeding, they turn their anger on those who have caught them rather than being angry at themselves.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Speedwatch volunteers.

It is not great fun to be standing on the side of a road for hours monitoring drivers’ speeds.

In fact, it is pretty thankless.

But we ought to thank them because if they can encourage drivers to slow down, they just might save a life.

In simplistic terms, speed kills.

If drivers break the speed limit, they are all the more likely to kill a pedestrian, cyclist or other motorist.

And yet the volunteers who selflessly assist in making the roads safer are subjected to insults and threats by some motorists.

These motorists should be ashamed, not only because they have risked lives by their actions but because they have decided to renege on their responsibility to vent their spleens at innocent bystanders.

Wake up. If you are driving a car you have a dangerous weapon. You have a huge responsibility to other people.

If you are not capable or accepting that responsibility, you should not be driving at all.
