A PETITION calling for a statue of Keith Flint to be installed in Braintree town centre is closing in on 4,000 signatures.

As of 3pm today (March 13), just over 3,900 people had added their name to the growing list of fans who are backing the idea of a permanent memorial for The Prodigy frontman.

The petition was set-up by Braintree fan Dave Paris and his partner Saphya Gower on Sunday evening.

A spokesman for Braintree Council said: "We were saddened to hear about the passing of Keith Flint who is an iconic part of our cultural heritage and many residents grew up listening to The Prodigy’s music.

"When the petition is passed to us we can consider suitable ways of remembering his contribution."

Keith Flint was found dead at his home near Dunmow on Monday, March 4.

Earlier this week, his provisional cause of death was given as hanging at his inquest opening at Essex Coroners Court, in Chelmsford.

A full inquest will take place on Tuesday, July 23.
