It is a mad world in Colchester as more musical legends have added their names to Castle Park’s impressive summer setlist.

Pop rock duo Tears for Fears will be performing in the park in July.

The band, formed in1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, is the third to join the summer setlist along with award-winning singer songwriter Craig David on June 2 and the legendary Sir Tom Jones on July 21.

Following on from a hugely successful indoor arena tour, Tears For Fears announced they will play only a select number of outdoor summer shows and Castle Park has been chosen as one of these.

The band has had sales of more than 30 million albums worldwide including the quintuple-platinum BRIT Award-winning Songs from the Big Chair and Seeds of Love.

Other locations they have performed at include North America, Japan, South Korea, Manila, and South America.

In 2013 they returned with their first recorded music in a decade - which was a cover of Arcade Fire’s Ready to Start.

Liz Doogan-Hobbs, chief executive officer of LHG Live said “Tears for Fears have amassed fans across the globe and across the decades and continue to enthral through their unequivocal catalogue of hits.

“We are absolutely delighted to be working with them this summer and to be bringing yet another fantastic concert to Colchester.

“Castle Park is a beautiful venue and we look forward to an incredible evening at the grounds.”

Tim Young (Lab), Colchester councillor responsible for tourism, welcomed the announcement and said he may even be buying a ticket himself.

He said: “This is great for Colchester.

“We have been getting all these big names and talented artists coming to Castle Park.

“I think I have a Tears for Fears album so I may be trying to get a ticket myself. It’s great news.”

Nick Barlow (Lib Dem), Colchester councillor responsible for commercial services, added he was thrilled such well-known and talented artists have been added to summer concerts in the park line-up.

He said it would be a boost to Colchester’s economy and added the upcoming concerts “added variety to the exciting and extensive events portfolio Colchester has to offer”.

The concert will take place on July 28 and tickets go on general sale from 9am on Friday.
